The refuge belongs to the Sezione di Torino of CAI which dedicated it in 1886 to Bartolomeo Gastaldi, geologist and president of the Club.
Located in a panoramic position at 2659 meters on the Crot del Ciaussinè, a splendid morainic amphitheatre that owes its name to an ancient calcium quarry, it is surrounded by some of the most beautiful peaks of the Valli di Lanzo, such as Ciamarella, Albaron di Savoia, Punta Maria, Cima d’Arnas and the imposing Bessanese.
The Gastaldi Refuge is open continuously in summer and offers bar and restaurant service every day.
Up to 65 guests can be accommodated in some bedrooms and two dormitories, offering toilets and running water on each of the three floors.
The next Vecchio Rifugio is part of the Museo della Montagna di Torino and holds rare images and documents showing the mountaineering history of the Lanzo and Gastaldi valleys.
